Caffeine Content in Green Tea

Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world around water. It is a history that spans centuries and is still widely consumed in many countries in Asia. Generations of people have enjoyed green tea for its health benefits. Today, it has gradually gained popularity in many Western countries as people seeking a healthy alternative to coffee, without all the caffeine.

Green tea contains about 30mg caffeine per 8oz. (240ml) glasses to compare this to a cup of regular brewed coffee, which contains about 100 mg. In a report published by John Hopkins University of Medicine, found that 80-90% of the population of North America who consumed caffeine, consuming an average of 280mg per day. It comes from the caffeine intake of coffee, tea, soft drinks and chocolate products. The University has also reported that excessive intake of caffeine (over 200 mg), can result in nervousness, anxiety and upset stomach. If we follow the recommendations to consume, and not more than 200mg of caffeine, that equates to 2 cups of coffee, or about 1 cup of coffee and a few cans of soft drink. With this guide in mind, we can safely consume 5-6 cups of green tea a day.

The report also suggests that, despite the low content of caffeine in green tea, people with anxiety disorders, insomnia, and pregnant women should reduce their intake or stop drinking green tea at all.

These days you can often find a decaffeinated green tea in the supermarket or specialty stores. Unfortunately, during the process of removing caffeine from green tea flavor is also changed. That is why in Japan, where many people drink green tea, the caffeine-free green tea is almost impossible to find in any supermarkets or stores.

is also thought that removing the caffeine content in green tea, many health benefits were also lost to the polyphenolic content.

There are some simple ways to reduce the caffeine content in green tea. the first time will be from the beer leaves or tea bag for only 1 minute (compared with the normal 2 minutes). Another way would be to just throw away the first cup of tea, beer, drinks, and the second and third beer only.

Moderation is the key to eating anything in life, and the same can be said for green tea. The great thing with the green tea contains many healing properties and still has the right balance of caffeine, so that we can refresh and energize without experiencing irritability and anxiety that can often happen with coffee.
